About Therapy. RoomKewRoad

My Main Approaches and Quotes I Like

Based on my Humanistic orientation it is my belief that we all have a desire and capacity to live our lives to our best ability. As we go through life, however, we encounter set-backs, obstacles and significant hurdles which may make it less easy to see what is best for us or how to achieve it. I like to discuss with my clients how they are doing now but also make links to their past experiences or help them identify underlying behavioural patterns.

Our initial meeting is either online or in person (we will agree this beforehand) and we will discuss what you would like to achieve through psychotherapy. After this meeting we will both have the opportunity to decide if we feel that we could work well together, and if so, we will arrange to meet again. The number of subsequent sessions will depend on your needs and circumstances. We will periodically evaluate your progress and consequently reconsider the number of required sessions as necessary.

I endeavour to be client-led, dedicated to your needs and always respectful of your wishes and decisions. This is your space and you are the expert on your life; I will simply assist you in making sense of things that have happened and empower you to make the right choices for yourself in the present and going forward.

To demonstrate how my Humanistic therapeutic approach works, please see the below quotes:

Person-Centred: "The task of the counsellor is to be the kind of companion who can relate in such a way that the client can access their own wisdom and recover self-direction" (Mearns & Thorne, 2013)

Gestalt Therapy: "Gestalt therapists believe that people potentially have all the necessary abilities to solve their problems or face their difficulties. However, sometimes they get stuck and need some assistance" (Joyce & Sills, 2014)

Transactional Analysis (TA): "Transactional analysis has a way of understanding and intervening in human behaviour, of empowering people to take responsibility for their lives and transforming their relationships" (Hargaden & Sills, 2002)

Should you have any questions regarding my type of therapy or how we might work together, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will do my best to answer them promptly.
